Large, robust white livestock guardian dog of the mountain type with thick double coat, known for its imposing stature and courageous, protective nature developed for livestock protection in Slovakia
Ancient breed developed in Slovak mountainous regions for guarding livestock for centuries. After World War II, the breed was nearly extinct until Dr. Antonin Hruza established a breeding program to restore numbers. Officially standardized in 20th century and recognized by FCI in 1964.
