An ancient landrace breed developed by the indigenous Nenets people of the Yamal Peninsula in Siberia. For centuries, it has been an essential partner for herding, guarding, and transporting reindeer in harsh Arctic conditions. The breed is an ancestor to the modern Samoyed and was fundamental in the development of several modern northern breeds.
